Amazon has the Prime Day Deal: KitchenAid 5.5-Qt Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer $299.99 + Free Shipping
5.5-Qt Bowl-"Lift model" is now the same price as the smaller 4.5-Qt tilt model we posted last week!
Biggest difference
The K45SS is KitchenAid's basic traditional mixer. It's perfectly good for cakes, cookies, whipped cream and occasional bread/challah.
The KSM55 is the more substantial machine. You get a larger 5.5-quart bowl, bowl-lift construction, more capacity, and better handling of heavier dough/bigger batches.
One important point: 4.5 qt vs. 5.5 qt doesn't sound like a huge difference, but the bowl-lift design makes the KSM55 a significantly different class of mixer, not simply the Classic with a slightly larger bowl.
This was just selling for $499, with an average price of about $399. (Lowest price ever was $284.99)
